Persecuted Christians, Open Doors

The Problem

In Sudan Christians are enslaved. In Iran they are assassinated. In Eritrea they are imprisoned. In China they are beaten to death.

In more than 60 countries worldwide, Christians are harassed, abused, arrested, tortured or executed specifically because of their faith.

Today hundreds of millions of Christians are suffering simply because of what they believe.

It is estimated that about 100 million Christians are suffering as a result of persecution.

While the United Nations have the Universal Declaration that was written in 1948 stating that "Everyone has the right to ... change his religion or belief ..." this is not actually the case and unfortunately the United Nations in many cases do not interfere.

The persecution of Christians is largely ignored and unknown around the world simply because there are not enough people telling their story and doing something to bring change to their situation.

The Solution

We believe that God you and I can turn the tide on persecution. We might not be able to stop persecution outright but we can make

Step 1
Listen then tell their story

Step 2
Give something to help

Step 3
Alleviate their suffering

Open Doors support God's global church. This means we deliver bibles, train, equip and strengthen believers through seminars, Bible College and other special programs.

Open Doors visits Christian prisoners and encourage them during their trials. We also send loads of letters, faxes and emails to encourage families and Christian prisoners. These letters remind them that they are not forgotten by the global Christian community.

We also offer literacy and livelihood opportunities to hundreds of desperately poor believers; transform countless communities with health and farming projects; provide places of refuge for those in danger; and personally encourage thousands of isolated believers in dangerous and violent areas.

Human Rights

We believe in human rights.

We believe every Christian has the right to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ, in the same way that everyone has the right to hear it.

We believe every Christian who is persecuted has the right to be remembered and supported by other Christians.

We believe Christians living in the free world (not under persecution) have a right to know how oppressed fellow Christians are being treated.

'From Jesus to Christ'

America's PBS television (Public Broadcasting System - viewer and tax supported) broadcasted a seductive, but dangerously inaccurate film series about Jesus Christ and the early church. The series was part of the FRONTLINE program and was entitled "From Jesus to Christ, the First Christians."

The series was developed by a producer who appears to enjoy using his position to promote left-wing, liberal beliefs. He promises to reveal "the real story of the rise of Christianity… challenging and upsetting conventional ideas." One of the scholars used in the series is the liberal Jesus Seminar co-founder John Dominic Crossan. The series also heavily promotes their PBS Web site on this subject, which among other things promotes: "Writings from, and about, the Jesus Seminar, the controversial group of scholars which meets and determines, by vote, the veracity of stories and texts about Jesus."

It is worthy of note that no evangelical scholars were used in the series. Rather, the emphasis was on people from such liberal institutions as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Duke, Brown, Union, etc. According to Craig Blomberg of Denver Seminary, the series "does not acknowledge distinctively evangelical perspectives at any point."

For more information and analysis of "The Jesus Seminar" go to this website:

Are “The Jesus Seminar” criticisms of the gospels and Jesus Christ valid?

Pam Johnson of World Magazine reports, "Biblical Christians will hardly recognize their Savior. Professors Michael White, Allen Callahan, Shaye Cohen, Eric Meyers, Paula Fredriksen, Holland Hendrix and Mr. Crossan paint a picture of Jesus as a wheeling, dealing artisan-turned-follower-of-John-the Baptist-turned-preacher—complete with the standard-issue bag of miracles that sometimes 'miss the mark.' His message was '100 percent political and 100 percent religious,' which led the Romans—not the priests and Pharisees — to want Jesus crucified for insurrection. …They blow Peter and Paul's disagreement over dietary concerns into a power struggle that was decided in favor of Peter by a pecunious, ham-fisted James (and Paul goes off in a huff to proselytize the Gentiles.)"

In summary, this series is based on inaccurate assumptions and cleverly promotes the beliefs of a carefully chosen group of liberal scholars.

Audrey Hepburn

Speaking of Audrey Hepburn in the last blog post I must say I love her style so much so that I think there should be a whole post dedicated to her

Rutho the Chen Myster!

Rutho Chenners,

What a legendo! A girl in my year called Ruth hot stuff Chen came to school with a drawn portrait of Audrey Hepburn and a lovely, if not a little quirky bookmark. She is a beautiful Christian sister who I can always go to and vent my feelings, she is always there to listen and when you're not expecting it is outlandishly generous.

She also makes a mean Tiramisu. She just seems to get better and better!

Rutho has made a bad day GREAT!!!

Love you Rutho!

Vision in the Valley

LORD HIGH and HOLY, MEEK and LOWLY

Thou hast brought me to the valley of vision,
where I live in the depths but see thee in the heights,
hemmed in by the mountains of sin I behold thy glory

Let me learn by paradox
that the way down is the way up
that to be low is to be high
that the broken heart is the healed heart
that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit
that the repenting soul is the victorious soul
that to have nothing is to possess all
that to bear the cross is to wear the crown
that to give is to receive
that the valley is the place of vision

Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from deepest wells
and the deeper the wells the brighter thy stars shine
Let me find thy light in my darkness
thy life in my death
thy joy in my sorrow
thy grace in my sin
thy riches in my poverty
thy glory in my valley.

AMEN!!!

—The Valley of Vision

It took me a long time to find this last one

Sacrifice - Howard Guinness

“Where are the young men and women of this generation who will hold their lives cheap and be faithful even unto death? Where are those who will lose their lives for Christ’s sake flinging them away for love of him? Where are those who will live dangerously and be reckless in his service? Where are his lovers — those who love him and the souls of men more than their own reputations or comfort or very life?

Where are the men who say ‘no’ to self, who take up Christ’s cross to bear it after him, who are willing to be nailed to it in college or office, home or mission field, who are willing, if need be, to bleed, to suffer and to die on it?

Where are the adventurers, the explorers, the buccaneers for God, who count one human soul of far greater value than the rise or fall of an empire? Where are the men who are willing to pay the price of vision? Where are the men of
prayer? Where are God’s men in this day of God’s power?” - Howard Guinness, Sacrifice, pages 59-60.
